08/12/16- Fall Convocation Aug. 16 at Mississippi State
The 2016 Fall Convocation will be held Tuesday [Aug. 16], 5:30 p.m., at Humphrey Coliseum to welcome new students to Mississippi State. The keynote speaker will be renowned motivational speaker and philanthropist Ashley Rhodes-Courter, author of “Three Little Words: A Memoir,” the university’s 2016 Maroon Edition book selection. Students also will hear from MSU President Mark E. Keenum; MSU Provost and Executive Vice President Judy Bonner; and MSU Student Association President Roxanne Raven.
All new students, freshmen and transfers, are required to attend (unless there is a class conflict) and should arrive by 5 p.m. to receive a Fall Convocation coin as a memento of the occasion. Family members and guests also are invited.
Participants should follow specific directions to the appropriate entry points in order to receive the Fall Convocation coin. Students must bring their student ID card, so attendance can be recorded. Once the ID cards have been electronically scanned, students will receive a card, which should be turned in to the usher when being seated to receive the special Convocation coin.
In order to avoid traffic congestion, please either walk, bike, or ride the shuttle to Humphrey Coliseum (see information below):
— Freshmen living on campus with a residential zone permit should remain parked in their residential zone and not try to relocate their vehicle to the Coliseum.
— The Coliseum Shuttle Stop is on the Central Loop and is the closest shuttle stop to the Coliseum.
— South Zone Residential students can access the Central Loop at the Montgomery Hall or the stops located between Oak and Rice Halls.
— North Zone Residential students can access the Central Loop at Griffis Hall and the Hilbun Hall stops.
You can track the bus along each transit route at www.smart.msstate.edu. ADA parking is available immediately adjacent to the Coliseum where attendants will be able to direct traffic accordingly.
