10/15/15- Inaugural Model African Forum Please join us on Oct. 16 from 1-5 p.m. in the Wise Center’s College of Veterinary Medicine (CVM) Auditorium as CVM students conduct the Model African Union (MAU) Simulation. Students will take on the character of the heads of African diplomats and learn how to formulate debate agendas and policy mandates along the lines of the African Union as one way of learning One Health Competencies. The MAU addresses global trends using contemporary African issues related to One Health, trade and economic growth, gender empowerment, human development, peace and security, democracy, institution building and human rights issues. The countries that will be represented include Egypt, Central African Republic, Ghana, Ethiopia, Malawi, Nigeria, Uganda, and South Africa.
The goals of this simulation are to provide a theoretical framework for all students to understand how Africa addresses issues of critical importance, engage students in conducting research and practicing diplomacy, and expose students to the formal rules of parliamentary procedure. Faculty members are invited to volunteer as faculty advisers or officers and can attend a practice session on Oct. 16 from 1-5 p.m. at the CVM auditorium to receive assigned roles.
