Important Events
Pre-Departure Orientation
Pre-departure orientations are hour-long presentations via Webex that cover information related to flights, airport pickups, housing, money, SIM cards, immunizations, and more. Sessions are offered in March (for summer students), in June/July (for fall students), and in November (for spring students). Students are encouraged to attend one pre-departure orientation before arranging their travel and housing. Webex links for pre-departure orientations are sent to students' personal and MSU email addresses approximately 2 weeks prior to the first session.
Freshman/Transfer Orientation (Undergraduates only)
Freshman Orientation and Transfer Orientation are coordinated by the Office of Admissions and Scholarships. Undergraduate international students generally attend the last orientation session (approximately 2 days before classes begin). If you have questions about orientation, please contact Philip Moss (philip.moss@msstate.edu).
International Student Insight Day
International Student Insight Day is a one-day event held by the International Services Office to cover important information about immigration, academic integrity, and American classroom settings. This is also the first opportunity for our new international students to meet one another. Insight Day is generally held the day before classes (January and August). While it is not required, it is strongly encouraged. Registration information is sent to students' MSU email addresses approximately one month prior to the event.
Paying Deposit
For students beginning in Fall, the payment is due by August 1. For students starting in Spring, payment is due by January 1.
All new international students will be required to pay a $6,000 deposit prior to enrolling for their first semester at Mississippi State.
This deposit can be paid through the International Payment portal in your MyState Account (powered by FlyWire). The only exceptions to this requirement are students who have a graduate assistant position (GA/RA/TA) or students who are sponsored by their home government or outside agency.
